The Archives of Serbia and Montenegro is housed in the building of the Foundation of H.E. King Aleksandar I Karageorgevich, built as the King Aleksandar Centre for secondary school students.
The building was erected in 1933 according to the design of the architect Vojin Petrovic. The building is under prior protection as a monument of culture, being located on a cultural and historical site - the "SENJAK, TOPCIDERSKO BRDO, DEDINJE" zone and is a structure of particular landscaping and architectural value. The Archives, at that time under the name Archives of Yugoslavia, moved into the building in 1969. In addition to the repositories housing archival material and the offices, the Archives has a library, a reading room, an exhibition hall, a lecture and promotional events hall and a restaurant. The Archives is open from 8.30 hrs. to 16.30 hrs. and the reading room from 9.00 to 18.00 hrs every weekday. |
